Today we are celebrating the International Day of Charity, established by the United Nations in 2012. This day honours the legacy of Mother Theresa, and serves as a global call to action—mobilizing individuals, nonprofits, and communities to address humanitarian challenges through acts of generosity. Whether it’s providing emergency relief, supporting education, or advocating for marginalized voices, charity bridges gaps where systems fall short. It’s a reminder that even small gestures—donations, volunteer hours, or kind words—can ripple outward and uplift lives across borders.

But why do people give? At its core, giving is a deeply human impulse rooted in empathy, connection, and purpose. People give to help others, yes—but also to feel part of something larger than themselves. Charitable acts can boost your wellbeing, foster community, and even improve your physical health. Some donors are driven by personal experiences, others by values or faith, and many simply by the desire to make the world a little better. On this day, we celebrate not just the impact of charity, but the spirit behind it—the quiet courage to care.
We at Omughisa Rwenzori are so very grateful for the people who support us, share in our mission, and help us bring our dreams for a better world to life in one small corner of Uganda.
